The last time we went, in May 2023, it definitely felt like there was an increase in expats. We were hearing of people inserting themselves into traditional dances, and visiting spiritual temples without the right attire. People were louder and ruder than previous trips. We intentionally avoid the Kuta area, and head straight to Ubud as it has always been a bit quieter in terms of tourists, but seemed to be so many digital nomads around. I guess it happens everywhere eventually.
