My son trashed his second vehicle in 12 months on Saturday night.

He went off the road & down a hill. He narrowly missed a pole and only took out a few lantana & bottle brush bushes. No-one was hurt & no private property was damaged.

The little dude was bummed to lose his independence and having to be driven to the worksite by his folks. He decided he wanted to tap into some Bitcoin that he bought with his own money almost 4 years ago.

We had a long chat about opportunity cost & the subjective nature of value.

He somehow found a reasonably clean 2007 V6 Commodore for 1.1 million sats with an error code on the dash. We had a look at it, took a test drive & I cleared the error code using my ODB scanner tool. The seller said he'd replaced the oil pump but couldn't clear the code.

The little dude was lucky on so many levels but I want him to learn from the whole experience.

Parenting boys is stressful & challenging. Be grateful for what you put your parents through & the lessons they helped you integrate.

Talk to him about insurance costs.

Insurance is a shitcoin πŸ˜†

"You never know when you're going to run into a semi full of corvettes" as my Dad told me.

The future is uncertain & that is why we save in the hardest money to have existed.

Bitcoin is the best insurance against future uncertainty.

I was a nightmare for my parents, it's a tough gig.

Glad he’s ok. Sounds like my best friend in high school. His guardian angel worked overtime πŸ˜… My son has a ways to go til driving age. I dread it though. lol

Glad he was okay. And what a blessing to have such good parents.

Glad that he is ok, that is the most important thing. A 2007 Commodore will hopefully still be good a good car for a while if it is in reasonable condition.

Reminds me of me. Be patient. πŸ«‚

Well done dad….

I’m the parent of 3 grown (and beautiful) boys. But it was touch and go for so many of the late teenage and early 20’s years. In hindsight, it was as much for my learning as it was theirs.

Strange and wonderful how the universe works this way πŸ’« πŸ™πŸ»

Yeah it is.

I think agreements are made at the soul level before they come into this realm.

As a father, you play the role of the heavenly father for your children. You reflect their image of Him back to them. You simultaneously get to learn so much from the whole experience.

Thank you for the kind words 🧑

You are a great dad Brisket! Have patience with him; when I was his age I had no idea what I was doing. It’s part of growing up.

Hopefully her can quickly buy back those 1 million sats to make up for it :)

Yeah same - I don't think I found any wisdom until my late 20s.

We also had a lengthy discussion around saving & where Bitcoin is going. We've all gotta touch the stove & he will someday inherit wealth beyond his comprehension. It's good to learn these lessons early.

I've been kicking this thought around for a long while now & in some ways I'm glad his childhood was not a privileged one. Easily received wealth can destroy a man.

The important thing is he paid for the new car with his own money. When the price pumps, he will understand opportunity cost.
