From 1960 to the present, nearly all politically motivated killings in the United States have originated from the right-wing spectrum, including acts driven by racism, white supremacy, anti-abortion extremism, or anti-government terrorism. Documented killings from the left-wing spectrum are rare. The assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963 remains the most notable exception.

The following overview includes only cases on the U.S. mainland between 2025 and 1960 in which the perpetrators can be clearly classified within the left–right ideological spectrum.
