to clarify, the proper and intelligent approach is to do both - to use discrimination and "sampling" to give you a general statistical overview of the situation, but then allow (AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION) for exceptions - which by definition prove the rule ...

Not very compelling to me. I don’t want to apply categorical judgements to others if I have an expectation that they don’t do so to me. There are also much more informative indicators than race to tell you the type of person you’re dealing with.

The problem with this "realism" is that it only describes problems. Doesn't touch real causes and possible solutions. It is dumb.
