I wonder if brand design can be taught or if it’s an artistic talent you develop over time šŸ¤”

I think a lot of it needs to be unlearnt too lol. It becomes quite monotonous. Everything looks like an app, I want to cry.

They should just make devs do the brand design to mix it up a bit and make it look shit. Whatever the product is or industry lol. Get a lacklustre dev to do the branding. It will stand out for sure.

I started trusting my intuition.. that’s the artistic talent development. At some point your mind naturally knows what works and what doesn’t - often I don’t even know how I got to the end result. I just do.. that’s the funniest it’s almost like someone else created it and you’re like: dafuq how did I do this? But it’s all those small decisions which you learn on the go I’d say.

Obv. You can take shortcuts by studying what has worked for others but ultimately a good artistic person then reconnects with his own personality and can let go of frameworks etc.

Maybe any of this makes sense. Been creating today for 15h straight. My brain is fried. Gn

I’m the same way with other types of design but have always somehow lacked the creative bone for good brand design. When I look at others’ great work it makes it very obvious that I’m not at that level. So I wonder if I just need to practice more or if there’s some other way to learn..

GM! I think design can be taught and the more someone designs, the more they understand what ā€œrulesā€ to bend or break and when. Brand design often has requirements that need to be fulfilled which can make good design even more important.

I’d say there’s definitely more creativity to brand design. You can recognize a strong brand from a mediocre one and there’s a person behind that.
