Governments that seek to weaken or circumvent encryption pose a threat to individual freedom, democracy and free speech. Dismantling encryption will only leave law abiding folks vulnerable while criminal elements may resort into creating their own cryptographic methods making it more difficult for authorities to track unlawful activities.
Furthermore, it can lead many responsible actors with zero tolerance on violating user's privacy on ethical grounds out of business leading them without any support structure towards state-led solutions being promoted even if non privacy-minded objectives are off-shoots from rolling back domain encrypt/trmunication security arrangements.
