I like that nostr.wine is a one-time purchase. I was afraid that all of these services would be monthly subscriptions. I would never ever sign up for subscriptions like that šŸ˜‚

They might change in the future though. There’s no guarantee

Like lots of early tech and startups, these things slowly go up in price over time. Enjoy it while it’s more affordable! šŸ·

It’s not even about affordability, I just personally can’t stand the subscription model.

Sadly all of these companies realized that one time fees weren’t profitable enough for their shareholders.

Recurring revenue is what Wall St wants to see, less so the actual Shareholders and more so the financiers.

I'm expecting relays to offer services to coincide with a regular subscription.

Not looking forward to monthly but they've got to cover their costs or else they can't exist.

You either pay for product, or you are the product

We will absolutely see monthly subscription relays in the very near future.

Or pre-paid relays

I could see relays going the Orange Pill App way, where you have monthly, annual or lifetime options.

Absolutely. We'll see it soon. Infrastructure isn't free and a constant stream of new users isn't sustainable.

A few thousand sats a month seems reasonable.

Inevitably the job of the relay will be content moderation/spam filtering. Call it censorship, but thankfully with Nostr it's democratized.
