Oh damn now they're onto me 😳

ColdCard wallet looking strong

nostr:npub1jg552aulj07skd6e7y2hu0vl5g8nl5jvfw8jhn6jpjk0vjd0waksvl6n8n is zapping all my posts, so I'm just talking shit 😂

It looks so beautiful, I was thinking about getting one. Can you let me know why it is sketchy.

It is a really cute device. The M5Stick form factor is just ao twee.

Very confusing security model freaks me out. Not sure I’m ready for that. Happy with me Coldcard and have Seedsigner coming in a few days 🤗

I think it's an interesting way to deliver a low-cost signing device. You keep the encrypted seed. You have a secret that decrypts the seed, but you need the oracle secret to decrypt your secret that decrypts the seed.

I think. 🙃

You can run your own blinded oracle server, if you don't trust theirs.

As a follow-up, I do think Jade's biggest problem is squeezing enough stability and functionality out of the cheapskate M5 hardware, and it comes up frustratingly short at times. Bluetooth pairing with the app can be *really* flakey.

Additionally, if you don't like the security model, you can always just put it in a mode where it acts like a SeedSigner -- you enter in seed information, sign your stuff, and the device forgets the info after it is shut down. It works *okay*, and the biggest pain point is the small screen to relay the QR code back to Sparrow or Nunchuck or whatever. Also, if your laptop webcam is potato, you might have to shut the Jade down, boot it back up, and adjust the brightness before re-entering your seed again.

The Jade sells sometimes for like $45 on sale, and that feels like the right price point, considering building a seedsigner is around that cost. When raspberry pi zero's were in supply chain crisis, Jade made a lot more sense.
