Question: I currently have all my Bitcoin on a Ledger and purchased both a Coldcard Q and Blockstream Jade Classic.
1. When I move to the new hardware signing device, do I import my existing seed phrase OR do I generate a new seed and then send the Bitcoin to an address on the new device?
Do what feels right.
I’m also nervous about UTXO management as I’m still learning the ins and outs of it.
I’m trying to determine how much at a time to send as well.
Send it all if you decide to start fresh with a new private key (sounds like you're going this route).
Make sure to triple check the addresses before broadcasting to the network!
Either answer would normally be fine.. But since you’re moving from ledger which has been known to have security issues in the past I’d recommend starting fresh with a new seed from your jade or CC
Depends on your utxo situation and privacy level of coins, eg careful not to mix private with kyc’d coins.
If you went the ledger live/ledger recover routine, probably best to consider a new seed phrase, although coins will still be linked to the original ledger account, but from personal experience, when I’d had enough of ledger I moved things. Makes me feel a lot better when I get phone calls “from ledger” suggesting I move funds and requesting my seedphrase, when I have nothing with them and I then ask them whether their family is happy with their career choice as a dirty scammer 🫡.
Security is one thing (they’ve never been cracked), but when they can’t secure your personal data as well, made me want to get the hell outta dodge. Social engineering is how most coins are stolen.
So personal preference, ledger doesn’t/shouldn’t have any knowledge of your keys, maybe set up coldcard with your current seedphrase and then use sparrow or something to transfer out to jade (I don’t know much about doing this with jade). Best of luck
