What's the current standard for private nostr key management on desktop so I don't punch my private key into every new client I want to try?

I use Alby for sign requests and to zap. My preferred desktop client is noStrudel for living up to the NIP standard.

And on my phone, I main use Amethys and several wallets.
Though I do check in from time to time on Wherostr
