This is human tribalism at its worst, I believe. You’ve got Trump supporters who will excuse anything he does or says because they see him dominating other people that they don’t like. And if other people are losing/suffering, that must mean they are doing well. If not materially, at least emotionally. It always feels good to be on the winning team.
Everything is viewed through the narrow lens of “how does it affect me”.
I was incredibly disappointed with the bitcoiners I saw stumping for Trump on their podcasts during the election. After years of being generally anti-government and politically agnostic, so many were in the bag for Trump for the promise of a “strategic bitcoin reserve”. So in the bag for Trump, that they conveniently ignored how obviously misinformed he was about bitcoin, and looked the other way as his family spun up memecoins and a shitcoin exchange.
I would ask them all to think more critically about what’s actually good for bitcoin. My take has always been that the more the debauchery of the crypto industry is conflated with bitcoin, the longer it will take for mass adoption of bitcoin, as it is constantly surrounded in a veil of complete bullshit.
