I hope so.

Right now I have just about had it with most Bitcoiners.

Seed oils, carnivorism, anti vaxxers, Christians etc.

Bunch of Blithering Bigots.

TBH, I am very sympathetic to most of that and I definitely lean towards libertarianism BUT I've had enough frustrating conversations recently with "progressive" family members who are convinced the government is the only way to improve people's lives that I'm in need of a different frame of reference with which to talk about Bitcoin.

Insightful observation -- I think emphasis on this empowerment of choice and introduction of possibility and potential is the key. -- Not a binary thing; a broad tool, power, potential, possibility, of by and for all

The psychological tendency towards tribalism is something that bitcoin, in and of itself, does not fix!

(Caveat: the reason we need tribes is to give us frens to protect us. And bitcoin is theoretically something you can protect all by yourself. But even in theory, we’re still light years away from obviating the psychological need for tribes.)

I believe that Cryptocurrency/Blockchain/Publicly-Distributed-Ledger technologies offer a novel chance at the perfect time. -- An opportunity to change our politics and the quality of our governance. -- Empowering the individual, and decoupling from centralized authority, the power to manipulate our monetary policy and supply. -- To engender a greater sense of international unity and accord, with the establishment of universally accepted means of storing, retaining, and exchanging value and keeping units of account. -- WE can unify 'The Millennial Super-Majority'; the 35-and-under demographic which, for the first time, can out-vote 'The Boomers.' --To begin the necessary transition(s) of political, economic, and social power to the coming generation(s). -- Part of the problem is that the 70 and 80 year olds establishing policy, have not, and will not, have to live with the consequences of their decisions; be they 'poisoned waters, burning trees, or unaffordable housing.' -- WE can rally around positive, creative, economically responsible, technologies -- that help remove the influence of money in our politics, and poison from our public discourse. -- To free ourselves from 'Private Interests' in 'Public Halls'; for the betterment of the 'Common Good.' -- I would love to see -- 'The Millennial Super-Majority' – peacefully insist in unity that "WE" are free; and make it so with OUR vote.

-- No more negativity; fix the money; fix the world. -- Let's get it!

I do appreciate this observation though; sooth indeed -- I think that's why it's important to 'remind'/'boost' the part of the 'signal' that says this is beyond politics and divisions---this is freedom---whatever the artists might paint; let them paint, and may the latitude of choice be of myriad hue...

To gain more traction at some point we need to move beyond the white male libertarian. For now however were are stuck with those whose bitcoin as a technology rather than a necessity. When we see a Lebanese mother or a young Venezuelan teenager doing the saylor speeches then we will be further along the mass adoption era.

I hope we skip over needing the Lebanese mother or young Venezuelan teenager to do the Saylor speeches. I hope they arrive simply by using Bitcoin and experiencing the benefits.

We've won when Bitcoin becomes super boring.

“Uuuugggg i know it’s infinity scarce. i hate required 100 level courses that repeat my high school”

The willingness and the ability to separate the signal (e.g. those truths that are currently championed almost exclusively by maxis) from the noise (the tribal beliefs that frequently accompany) is one of the hallmarks of a mind that is NOT encumbered by tribalism. Conversely: the rejection of an idea bc you don’t like the messenger or the messenger’s tribe (Trump derangement syndrome, name-your-poison derangement syndrome) is one of the hallmarks of tribalism.

If you seek truth, you must accept that the message ultimately is independent of, and more important than, the messenger.

But if your need to belong (an understandable need, to be sure!) is more vital than your search for truth … it’s the other way around: agree with the messenger if it’s your tribe, and truth doesn’t matter. (Heck, comfort yourself the the thought that “objective reality dOeSnTrEaLlYeXiSt” or “everything is a social construct” or whatevs 🤪)

We'll never get rid of the need for tribes. That's a fundamental human need IMO.

What we can fix is dependence on rulers and controllers that are far removed from our tribes or communities. The more layers that exist between you and a person that has the ability to control you (through many different methods), the more likely it is that there will be corruption and encroachments on your rights.

☝🏻👍🏻

Which is precisely why I bitcoin. And nostr. And dcosl!

I agree -- there has been a concerted effort to create a sense of 'political division' around the issue of Bitcoin/Crypto as if there are established positions that can be classified as left or right or what have you. -- This is BEYOND binary politics. -- The promise of this is precisely that it can finally cut through---and by a peaceful albeit very insistent rallying point for the #MillennialMajority to take control from the 'institutional inertia,' and purchased politics. -- BTC and Freedom FTW -- This isn't partisan its human; its Art, Love, Liberty, Unity, & Expression. -- Let's get it!

I agree, and yet, I think when you've only ever known a world where the state is the one that is meant to provide services and regulate to achieve beneficial outcomes for the population, it's really really hard to understand how a system that undermines that state to achieve the same or better outcomes could be possible.

The systems we’ve seen where they have managed this have been small communities of coherent groups. Think like the Amish, or White South Africans in their gated compounds, or even recently the Muslims taking over in Hamtramck to a degree. Localised is the only way - big enough that the group is too hard to mess with but small enough that community ideals can be socialised.

If you’re painting with such broad strokes, maybe you should look in the mirror.

Toxic seed oil maximalist spotted 🧐

WHERE??!!??? 😜😂

I do carnivore. Avoid seed oils. Share lots of beliefs with with maxis tribe. Steel, sun, stack sats, etc. Including the deep, well-deserved mistrust of so much of conventional wisdom.

But I also frequently ask myself: are any of those beliefs just the product of tribalism from another tribe? In other words: are those beliefs objectively true? Are seed oils and carbs truly the root of all evil, just to use one example?

And most importantly: How would I know? Which is a whole new rabbit hole of its own! 🐇

That rabbit hole gets deep into human psychology. The psychology of tribalism. Tribal narratives. Narrative fiction. Why toxicity exists within tribal narratives. What are the characteristics, so we can learn to recognize it.

The central role of cognitive work in a tribal narrative. Yes, proof of work.

Would you believe me if I told you that this rabbit hole, way deep underground, connects in a major way to DCoSL?

The computational work required to maintain the concept graph will become nontrivial, once the protocol is developed in its entirety. Much of the structure of the concept graph will have to be designed with the goal of optimizing that workload.

I could type more here but it’s a huge topic. I’m gradually trying to add it to the dcosl repo.

Let's throw that circuit into a loop:
