That's wild. I understand though. Not every client is robust enough to deflect the attacks.

I'm not sure, but for me as a curious and new user it was a really frustrating experience.
In our small #nostr group in Western Austria, we discussed a few weeks ago, how to get more users here. Many normal people have a very low tolerance threshold for such "teething troubles". And they have no idea how to counter this as individuals.
I first had to learn this myself.
I believe ditto.pub has solved the Reply Guy problem if that's useful to you. I would recommend using that as main client, especially for new people
There are two main spam attacks tho. This guy is not the reply guy one, which hasn't stopped. This is guy was only targeting dev's posts with replicated replies with emojis thrown in. Just to be clear lol.
Still annoying, just cos it only replied to devs doesn't make it less annoying. Most people follow the devs here lol.
How exactly does ditto solve the problem?
I believe they require a nip05 to see posts, spammer then started using a nip05, ditto blocks that nip05 URL
I have a feeling ditto posts also have a small PoW? Not sure about that one tho
But now I miss a lot of replies on ditto π₯²
So, if I am reading nip05 right, would that mean that phone apps that use public relays would be accepted? The idea that someone would have to register a domain name just to interact with people seems like a nonstarter

But you can get a nip05 free from a few places like zaps.lol I can't remember any other ones.

Each time, spam attacks on Nostr become more and more large-scale. Hundreds of fake accounts of Nostr developers reply to a post at the same time. Nostr's scattered developers are all individuals and cannot resist the attacks of a group with ulterior motives. Only the agreement is binding, but there is no better idea to solve the spam problem. It seems that anti-censorship and spam are natural symbiosis.
I thibk the solution is that relays should impose rate limits. Also some kind of user scoring, maybe adjust the este limit to the account age and mute qty
