Today 50 years ago America was instrumental in overthrowing the democratically elected president of Chile.

However, as much of a leftist that I am, how poorly could Chile under Allende could have fared? History teaches us it could have been very bad. Venezuela teaches us this too.

But we’ll never know.

I was reading Nietzsche earlier today and he talked about how even the most despicable people act in the interests of humanity. Without them we may have gone soft and relaxed and not survived as a species. Not so sure about that, but it’s a comforting thought
