In our revered Declaration of Independence, written by thee great Thomas Jefferson, he refers to those, alien to our country, as "merciless Indian savages".
I agree; don't tread on me. But the formation of our states was our assertion we have our own people with our own heritage, culture, and way of life.
When drafting the Constitution, we drafted a contract that we will allow a Federal govt to exist in addition to the sovereign states (they called it general govt back then), if they perform their contracted duties which includes casting out the invaders and insurgents.
That's not boot licking. That's the (Constitutional) contract all states knowingly, voluntarily, intentionally entered into.
