I’d agree there is no singular definition of value, but wouldn’t go so far as to say there is no definition of it. The value of something changes over time as those factors change, such as a new car vs a junky car vs a rare antique car. And which factors increase/decrease the value of something varies from person to person. If some people agree with each other on those factors/qualities being “valuable” then you begin to have a marketplace for ideas, goods, etc. For instance, I have a magnet that belonged to my father who passed away when I was younger. It would be worthless to most people. It’s extremely valuable to me as it is irreplaceable and represents so many memories. It has value to me but not beyond that. I also have an old sword from WW1 that belonged to my grandfather. It has additional value to me for reasons beyond the collector’s value it has for others. All that to say, value is a complex quality that may be based on many factors. Is AI Art more or less valuable than non-AI art? I think that depends on what factors lead a person to find art valuable in the first place.

If I’m understanding your point correctly, you are saying that the definition of value is subjective and dependent on the value structures of the “consumer” of the object/content. Therefore value, doesn’t have a definition that would apply to every piece of art, or consumer of said art.

Yes I think that is a fair summary.

I believe with any class of goods, whether it’s art or cars or fresh produce, etc., there are common factors that most people consider when determining its value. Is the produce moldy? Not valuable. Is the car in good mechanical condition? More valuable than a clunker. With art, factors like who made it, how old is it, is it an original or reprint, and so on, help people determine its value to them. Still subjective but not random.
