I tried this and they asked me for $20. Also, they wanted you to create a normie accout and not using your npub/master key. In one hand, it could be an easier point of entry for the general public. In the other, that page started "glowing."

It's just a nip-05 service and it literally says that nostr.com has commercial features below the "My Nostr Identity" button:
"Nostr is a protocol; explore the GitHub or visit nostr.org to learn more. Nostr.com has commercial features."
They also seem to use "Von Restorff effect" on the buttons to get users to click on the buttons taking them to nostr.org or the github repo instead of the nip-05 service or their shop.
Turns out nostr:nprofile1qqsvrlrhw86l5sv06wkyjgs6rrcekskvk7nx8k50qn9m7mqgeqxjpvgpz9mhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejj7yqltfr owns nostr.com (and nostr.org?) and he's not obligated to follow the "ethos" of #Nostr as users are not obligated to get a NIP-05 from nostr.com
So, he's free to charge $5 a year for NIP-05s and require people to have an account
