Another logical monetization angle for them would be selling the computation behind algo's, recommendations, matching creators with listeners, etc...

So yes, offering Hosting & Computation might be what they're doing (kinda) but right now it's not what they're selling.

tidal streams media to you:

- content delivery system requires authentication

- tidal auths you, then they auth the CDN to send to you

this has no impact on either payment model (pay per use vs time based subscriptions) nor on how you charge for it, it is just logistics

it is the same as paid relays or paid media hosting (eg nostr.build) - they will most likely stick to time based subscriptions and adjust them if they undershoot or demand is low and they are still in the black

it's easy to not make a loss on it too... just overestimate the delivery cost per customer and charge a good wide margin and then you don't have to nag the clients to increase their fees so often, also

If:

1. Any service can stream the media to you at whatever price

2. Anyone can pay for the media to be available to anyone

Why would I prefer a subscription as an uploading Creator? (some kind of insurance against popularity maybe? I could see that)

Why would I pay at all as a downloading Consumer?

- high bandwidth encodings

- physical products and auxilliary materials (eg, associated art and files used to generate the output, like how Nine Inch Nails did with Ghosts)

this is all well established practices in the internet artistic content delivery business, there is nothing about nostr or blossom that changes that, unless you somehow can make it impossible for them to authenticate users and not be able to restrict delivery, then it is just a charity and you are not a business

It won't. They have an ability to create a sister social network which uses Tidal brand and seamessly integrates in Tidal UX aimed at artists based on Nostr which will heavily use kind0s. They've recently launched Tidal Circles closed beta which is a Twitter-like experience for artists. It doesn't make any sense unless it uses Nostr under the hood. As it allows anonymous posting I suspect it is in fact a Nostr client.

It seems like that's what they're doing indeed. And it's very exciting;

But, it implies a switch to Value for Value, offering hosting as a service, offering algo's as a service, freely remixing Beyoncé, inability to offer copyright protection to artists, ...

Right now it's just default kind-0 client experience, no audio. It's not a Soundcloud ripoff yet.
