There is no way to recover your SimpleX key if you've lost your phone, right?

(asking for a friend)

There's a backup function, I think, but you would have to do that before you lose it.

afaik you can only transfer the state if you do a backup and don't use the device afterwards? Otherwise you have an outdated state?

You can use the device, but not SimpleX. I think.

If you haven’t exported the database it’s impossible to recover your chats and contacts. :/

Hi.

You have to stop the server going, because if you tried to use the same database on two different machines, it would screw up encryption keys and order of messages.

Isn’t decentralization wonderful?

Freedom isn’t always a walk in the park, but at least we can go in and out of that park whenever we damn well please. Irresponsibility begets collectivism.

Sorry to hear about your boating accident.

There isn't *the* key, SimpleX isn't nostr, the concept of digital identity is much more refined in SimpleX, there is a multitude of keys.

That's why you need the whole database, in addition to your contacts and messages it has your gazillion keys in them.

Not that I like that, I think it should be possible to reduce it all to just a few keys for the identity and one for each contact.

Stuff you can print out on a piece of paper if need be. This should be enough to at least re-bootstrap your network after a catastrophic loss.
