Biggest zap on this post gets the sum total of all other zaps. Excluding your own zap.

I’m not a fan of engagement-farming style zap requests. But the envelope math made me curious how this would work.

I think there’s some weird game/luck theory here. Like don’t zap more than double the current total, or you end up negative even if you win.

Happy if this gets going, but also fine if there’s no engagement. Just curious how people think and what your risk calculations look like.

Gamblers get going 🥂

This game needs a deadline to be fun, in my opinion 😄

Agreed. 8pm Eastern tonight. Just under an hour left.

Thought about it some more and there's no incentive for a second zap (if the only thing people care about is sats)

Are you sure?

Current total is 121 (21 + 100).

If person C zaps 101, they earn 121 sats and come out ahead. They only need to be the biggest zap — not bigger than the existing total

I think people don't just care about sats. But if they did, the second person to zap you (say, after the 21 sats) has a negative expected payoff. Still it's a fun exercise, I like the community building aspect of it. It's just not profitable for the second person. Unless the same person can zap more than once, in which case... Well let's see what happens

I see what you’re saying. Zap #2 is disincentivized because your return is <50%

But after zap #3 it should be fine.. right?

And I definitely view zaps as a way to acknowledge the receiver’s quality, value add, general fun and good spirit, etc.

And to your last point… hell yeah the same person can zap 2x! Didn’t even think of that lol

Agreed. In a sense, zaps are like smiles or nods in meatspace conversations, and I LOVE how seamless it is here. Unlike other social media, this way of liking does carry a small sacrifice, and thus contains real information. I like all these little games people are creating to push the boundaries of the medium. It's fun being here

It’s downright joyful

The real decision to give up a few sats is “proof” that a person appreciates the thing they received.

I think we’re just scratching the surface with regard to the v4v model and it’s invigorating to be a part of its inception/implementation

22 mins remain. Still not sure what this is lol

Can’t zap 😔

Throw a note in your zap to me and I’ll count it, w screenshot if needed

Congrats to the winner #[1]

Sending 1812 sats your way now 🤙

Wondering whether this experiment could be refined further as well

Thanks! All that game theory studying paid off. Rest assured, proceeds shall be recirculated

This is the way 🫡
