the first rule of ubuntu is: do not upgrade the kernel

the second rule of ubuntu is: DO NOT UPGRADE THE KERNEL

the third rule of ubuntu is: remove kernel metapackages and enable the menu in /etc/default/grub setting it to menu timeout mode and put a nice 10 second delay so if THE KERNEL IS UPGRADED at least it is not hard for you to either pick the old working one or go to the UEFI bios

honestly, I had this pain in like 2007.... today I'm updating kennel up and down no problem. weird.

yeah, because you don't use AMD video, this doesn't affect nvidia

which is hilarious because AMD drivers are open source, you'd think that would mean LESS problems not MORE

i'm sure Nvidia isn't paying kernel developers tho, not one bit...

AMD has big enemies, and NVDA has been given a giant steroid injection with the AI hype train, and everyone is expacting a blow-off top on its stock price any minute now, but it's a huge amount of pressure against the more linux friendly AMD dev strategy

i'm sure AMD will win in the end, but probably not until kernel 7
