What if DNA (or maybe RNA) is just a Von Neumann machine designed to venture out into the universe and eventually send the results of this exploration back home?

If you blast out enough "seeds" of self-replicating (and hill-climbing) Von Neumann machines, eventually something very different is going to make it's way back, and it will have stories to tell.
