If anyone is interested in reading the Bible but not sure where to start and don't want to wade through the slow parts, here are my official/amateur recommendations:

Why do people say King James is the best bible?

It's the worst Bible translation, other than all the other ones.

Modern scholarship doesn't approach the Bible faithfully and tries to explain a lot of stuff away based on an imposed agenda. KJV is hard to read, but at least it comes from a believing culture, so is going to be closer to the original intent.

That said, KJV-only people are fanatics.

So it's more raw and unfiltered kind of? Never met King James only crowd, just few people say its more legit.

Yeah, I'm no expert but I think that's about right. At least, it's less academic.

Thanks man .

I have learned to enjoy ESV adjacent to MSG when needed for some context. Could not recommend MSG alone.

I did not peg you for a devotional kind of fellow

It’s something I have an internal battle with. Working through it.

Always has been. Hope you find peace.

Sounds evangelical to me.

Is this on point at all?

Not quite sure what you mean, but I do believe the Bible, so I do think it should be read with the intent of understanding and believing the gospel rather than as a historical curiosity.

I relate evangelical to rapture-centric.

You?

I see, no, I am evangelical, but post-millennial, so I don't believe in the rapture (although I do believe in the final judgment)

Oh no you don't. No skipping around picking the sweet spots. Read that thing front to back, let's see how far you make it.

I would recommend reading all of Romans. It's great at putting everything else you read in context. Also, I would recommend that you read John before Matthew. It's more explanatory of biblical theology and poetic and the poetry will grab your heart.
