But someone couldn't download a fresh non custodial lightning wallet and receive a 100 sat zap. You can only do that with custodial wallets...?

Good question! Last time I checked there were no (easy) non-custodial solutions for receiving zaps.
But that was before nostr:npub1mutnyacc9uc4t5mmxvpprwsauj5p2qxq95v4a9j0jxl8wnkfvuyque23vg Came along, I think that I zap-compatible but I haven’t had chance to dig in to it
