After my grampa survived d-day they shot off all the German ammo through German guns into the ocean until the barrels melted. Then they stuck them in the sand and bent the barrels rendering them useless. Because 17-year-olds were badasses back in the day. 🫡

Stories like this are the most interesting. The odd moments of being in that environment, such as disabling the firearms.
As someone who's served, my favorite stories to tell, and listen to, are the ones like this. Who's idea was it to bend the barrels? What was the smell like? What model rifle? Etc...
Our unit would turn weapons in, along with other intel. Souvenir collecting was always interesting as you could never guess what kinds of things someone would want to keep to take home with them.
