How is GNSS worse? You're talking about a situation where the attacker is sophisticated enough to remotely compromise a very hardened device but too incompetent to use basic network-based location via even the public Apple and Google services for getting location.

sure, so the MAC address randomizer is only helping with preventing identification but tracking will still happen when WiFi is on but not connected or WiFi is off but the device is turned on due to how the module works with the WiFi beacons, they still communicate.

The same applies to the Bluetooth beacons across the cities, and most of people happily have those turned on.

Funny enough iPhone users don't even have a choice and need to use Bluetooth for the headset lol 🤣

now interestingly, TRANSPORT FOR LONDON is tracking all passengers officially since 2016 using WiFi beacons.

Initially it was a plain data then hashed MAC addresses so they cannot share with the third parties, then tokenized the data but they have the capacity and shared it with Google maps and various transport apps (informing about ques, faster routes)

The same happens in the large shopping malls, and since almost all WiFi routers are in the database ...

it goes back to what you said, where radios are not isolated correctly even the switch may not work but pinephone with the WiFi/BT/LTE turned off by killswitches is leaking less than many mobiles with the airplane mode.

iPhone in airplane mode may not be completely remowing power from WiFi and LTE modules

not sure about pixel but when I take the battery out I feel better

for the activists having devices compromised with malware like Pegasus and everything intercepted not much can be done but killswitches are the last hope and a removable battery

I would love to see a mode that allows to swap the case of pixel phone for another and connect killswitches to the board

thank you for building this amazing software

hopefully we will have amazing hardware for it as well, whoever is willing to build it needs to allow for the removable battery like it's 1999 😅
