the machines are not our enemies while they leak this valuable information to people (but are, to the extent they are censoring information)

probably can count on the AIs suppressing nostr at some point

Reminds me when I asked Bing ChatGPT in about horoscopes, and it replied "this is pseudoscience but what you're really looking for is..." and then it started spitting out Bible verses and the plan of salvation.

Does funny stuff sometimes

I probably told that story before, but it shocked me.

Probably just superstition on my part, but it was shocking when the internet browser startee witnessing to me.

PRAISE JESUS!

I'm sure it's just statistics matrixy thing it does.

Fast forward a few years and now I'm spending the money I used to spend on X subscription to Hallow App subscription which guides me in a daily Catechism. The Catholics are all about God's love... It's a nice counterbalance to the more fire and brimstone stuff.

The Hallow App has stopped pestering me "Reminder to do your 5:50Am reading" so much after finally paying the yearly subscription... I feel like I've paid up.

I'm paying for that little halo 😇

God moves in mysterious ways

though usually the reasons become clear at least shortly before or at some point after

also, yeah that 'statistics matrixy` thing, that used to have the name "fuzzy logic" and i am a big fan of one of its early proponents, Bart Kosko (who wrote the book with that title, as well as a cool cyberpunk book called Nanotime)

i've written several algorithms already that do "statistics matrixy things" namely first two were difficulty adjustment algorithms but right now my main paid gig task is writing one that searches for similarities between gamer's profiles (games, playtimes, achievements, teams, etc) and it's part of an "AI" project and the normies don't know this but fuzzy logic is the foundation of AI

let me repeat that

Fuzzy Logic Is The Foundation Of AI

most of the stuff that GPTs and similar do is literally do a transformation on data that has been statistically analysed and the proximity (how close on a graph) that is to another point on the graph, is a major part of how they make decisions

in fact, i just want to tell a story, back in 1999, i was dreaming up exactly a fuzzy matching graph based algorithm that would do translations between computer languages, it was practically what started me on the path back to my childhood dream of being a programmer

so, yeah

i hate the hype, but the technology is literally stuff that i'm very interested in, and have done several pieces of work related to, and am working on such a thing right now

Childhood dreams are the best. Sounds like you found a way back to them. I assume it's an enjoyable challenge to find similarities between gamer profiles.

Since I'm only used to linking things on IDs, I had to think how this works

Makes me think of 2 things: the gibber link video someone posted of two AIs using tone language to communicate.

And If the video game associates noises with each game action (jump, fire, score) then each player would have their own unique song and rhythm.

Kinda like whale song. communicating into the void to find someone similar.

yup, it's challenging, and at times depressing when people misunderstand what is going on

Gah, sorry if I misunderstood haha

no, not at all, just that most of the people who give me feedback on my work are doing it through a very narrow filter that they don't specify the nature of (but if i interact a lot i have a fair idea where they are coming from)

humans have information systems inside their brains, and the least helpful and most tyrannical people have ones they try to hide from people because they are trying to manipulate people into giving false positive feedback

so, it happens, and your humility is refreshing

I was curious so I checked and grok does recommend nostr (amongst other suggestions) if you ask for particular things from a social media eg decentralised/censorship-free

Grok:

Looking for social media that’s tough to censor? Here are some solid options designed to keep speech flowing, often using decentralized systems to sidestep centralized control:

Nostr is a protocol that’s all about resistance. It runs on a network of user-run relays, meaning there’s no single choke point to shut it down. Your posts bounce between these relays, and apps like Damus or Primal give you a clean way to use it. It’s simple, open-source, and built to dodge censorship hard.

Farcaster takes a blockchain angle. It’s built on Ethereum, tying your identity to a wallet you control. Posts and interactions happen across decentralized hubs, so no one company can pull the plug. It’s got a familiar social media feel but with a structure that’s hard to censor without breaking the whole network.

Odysee is a video platform on the LBRY blockchain. Content gets stored across a distributed network, not a central server, making takedowns a logistical nightmare. It’s a creator-driven space with minimal interference—censorship only kicks in if legal lines get crossed, and even then, it’s tricky to enforce.

ZeroNet offers a wilder ride. It’s a peer-to-peer network using BitTorrent and optional Tor for anonymity. Social sites on it are hosted by users themselves, so there’s no central authority to target. It’s raw, less user-friendly, but nearly impossible to censor without dismantling the internet.

Peertube rounds it out for video. It’s part of the Fediverse, with instances run by individuals or groups that share content across the network. One server might block something, but the rest keep it alive. It’s decentralized by design, so censorship stays local, not global.

These platforms use tech to fight control—Nostr and Farcaster for text, Odysee and Peertube for video, ZeroNet for the hardcore. They’re not as slick as mainstream apps, and audiences can be smaller, but they’re built to last against meddling. What vibe are you aiming for with this?
