You can just do that on your own small scale
barter and trade never really worked - one reason modern humans outcompeted neanderthals, was how money (in the form of jewelry) transformed homo sapiens sapiens into a superorganism, allowing larger groups to exist and cooperate, and out breed, than smaller neanderthal tribes
You can barter, but itās inefficient - matching wants, valuing and dividing goods, and storing wealth are cumbersome.
You can try it, but youāll likely return to money because itās far more efficient.
