So the worst thing about this business model is not that it's a copy of NIP-05

It's that these are not even http domains. They are at URI domains which they control. So they control a DNS behind the DNS. So two single points of failure instead of one.

Pardon me but the idea of NIP-05 itself is derived from mastodon/fediverse. No?

Through a certain lens, perhaps. In that they both rely on domain names.

But NIP-05 is more a two way verification by fetching a proof.
