Sounds like it makes sense. where do I find it, I am also now in some hell loop. I click login to get alby, it goes to create a new account, I click login and back to trying to make me create a new account and the extension keeps saying I logged in

You may have to clear your browser cache as well.
When initially starting with Alby extension I created some 'test' accounts. I couldn't find a way to replace my test account with my real account in the extension. I wound up totally uninstalling the extension, then re-installing it so I could log in with the correct account...
If nothing else works, you may want to try uninstalling the extension, then reinstalling it and seeing if it lets you login the way you want then...
