Large institutions are bringing it into their platforms because their is demand for it, and they have to in order to stay competitive. The beauty of bitcoin though is that it is open and creates rails outside the current financial network. This has never happened before outside of barter.

This is why continued education is important so that individuals can operate outside those rails. The best large financials institutions can succeed at right now (which they are doing fairly effectively) is surveillance (which they already do with fiat). With bitcoin their are tools to mitigate this though.
