With all the dystopian social media identification laws coming about, nostr might just be the last place of free speech with pseudonymity.

We might want to lean into this and make it as easy as possible to use nostr as anonymously as possible. Or at the very least offer an option to do so.

In practice - promote one click npubs. Encourage not sharing your real names. Maybe not even set a profile image. And explain pseudonymity vs anonymity.

Educate and enhance privacy.

Maybe profiles should be a thing of the past …

Didn't #Amethyst have a feature where you could log in with a nfc card or a random npub account to post from?

I don’t know, but more of this. Much more.

amber makes it very easy to securely create nsecs on the phone and remotely log in/sign over tor.

👀

Anonymous disappearing chats like bitchat are getting more interesting.

My favorite bitcoin signal chat deletes everything older than 2 weeks.

Yeah this should be an option all relays honor. I added expiring notes to x21.social but it’s up to relays really. So relays should specify if they honor deletion.

I wonder if clients could check for a yes or no honor policy and then periodically check to make sure it is honored. If not, nuke the relay from the user's list and let them fuck off into the void. Or somehow financially reward the good actors.

There's not much to stop someone from mirroring note and not removing them though.

I still think ryan's insight into citrine+tor/orbot exposed onion service is the most sovereign mobile nostr relay. It really does allow uncensorable speech. The phone itself has to be confiscated. You don't need any static relay.

It’s true. But we should look at it as components to a more private way to use nostr vs a bulletproof solution. The more components we can piece together, the tougher we make it.

Just installed a few days ago...

I dig it.

And we could do it with paid relays! What a time to be alive

Let's make #nostr the exception

Anonymity is great but overrated imo. What‘s great about Nostr the decentralized aspect of being able to own and port your generated content - counterbalancing the power imbalance with current social media systems that are way to intransparent and lock you in.

Privacy is great because people have a right to express themselves and not have every single thought be indexed, classified and archived for everyone to read - I find these forever semantics to be quiet toxic to finding yourself, evolving your character through playful social interactions. This compression of your experience and engagement of reality over time an into a single data node is silly.

Yup.

Every app/component should have its own identity without any association to who actually created it or controls it. That is how I am designing #nostr #safebox

Nostr aún no es un bastión. Las personas generalmente tienen una necesidad de exposición continua que seguro por acá no es atrayente.

Regular ppl rather dox themselves and have their anus scanned than use freedom tech. 💀 #nostr

Freedom of speech only survives where identity isn’t a prerequisite. Pseudonymity isn’t a bug, it’s the foundation. If we lose that, we lose the point.
