I love this setup. I’d really like to try and build something like this. I have a couple 60gal rectangular plastic basins. I just need pump, timer, and some tubing.

I’ve never done anything like this. Could you point to any how-tos for putting this all together?

Start with a simple concrete mixing tray from Home Depot, you will need to drill a hole for 1/2” threaded bulkhead, then 3/4” threaded bulkhead. The 3/4” is your drain. 1/2 goes to pump.

Get rubber irrigation tubing from Home Depot and get 2 straight 1/2” irrigation barbs. The barb will screw into the pond pump then to the tubing then to 1/2” bulkhead.

The 3/4” hole will set the level of the tray, you can use a 3/4” male to slip pvc piece. Cover both holes with net cups, 3” or larger.

I use a mechanical timer, 15 minutes on, 15 off during summer, can be less depending on your location.

Here is a similar build I’ve done, let me know if you have any additional questions. https://youtu.be/CuO5ZrKzZj4?feature=shared

Is that lava rock in the top basin?

Lava rock is cheaper and you can use it. I use the clay hydroton pebbles, easy to get cuttings in and out, doesn’t cut up your hands. $50 bag on Amazon should work for ~2 concrete tubs.

I see. Yeah that makes more sense.
