It makes sense and they may have a point, but I don’t like them telling me what should be on my hardware. Also, the node projects are great as self-hosting projects, regardless of bitcoin. Start9 had the right idea to be non-specific to bitcoin as a forward looking project.

It’s actually really up to them what they bundle with Raspiblitz but you still own the hardware so perhaps you could install a Nostr relay on your own with a little bit of pain.

Makes perfect sense, I didn’t have plans to put on the my raspiblitz due to hardware limitations… just bitching because click to install is such a nice to have. Have other nodes to install it on, just like to see useful tools like nostr available on the different node projects. The redundancy is nice, whether bitcoin or nostr relays.

Lightning node and Nostr relay should ideally run on separate VMs. Raspberry Piis not sufficient hardware for it.

W/lightning, totally agree should be separate. Bitcoin, depends on need of the server.

I agree they should be kept separate. And I would personally keep them separate and not due to hardware/resource limits but because I simply don’t want anything else on my Bitcoin node. I’m concerned about my node becoming compromised. I initially thought it was okay but I changed my mind after presenting the idea to the Raspiblitz folks.

However, it is still the user’s choice and some setups may provide sufficient isolation for some.

Nothing except your main Lightning node on one box.

Nostr relay, secondary LN node (with liquidity) and other apps on a different box.

* with small liquidity

It depends on the users needs, but a Pi is absolutely sufficient enough for a private relay to store your own notes and events. I wouldn't co-mingle the two services though, for security purposes.

Is there a video or something how to set up ?

I don't know, sorry. I setup my relay manually.

Ime,, pis usually die just from running docker; if I were to run my relay in a pi I’d do it straight on the metal and skip docker altogether.

Would the hw in a pi allow for a private relay on top of ie umbrel (that is running full node and lightning)?

yes, it would. though, i wouldn't recommend it. i don't like mixing bitcoin with other applications for security purposes.

So umbrel app store is a bad take on the personal server set up?

Its really practical though.

It’s really practical, sure, but they have many applications that are resource dependent and/or is far too security compromising to really recommend past your first/initial node, learning about how these systems work.

For people that aren't comfortable running their own services, these self hosting platforms that started out as Bitcoin nodes are fantastic.

Agreed. Can’t let perfect be the enemy of good right. Definitely a net benefit overall.

Most people self host their own dhcp server and they don't even realize it.

🤣 🤣 and DNS server.
