What we need is fewer “shoulds” and more “let’s build initiatives”. Building an open-source, privacy-focused, low-time-preference phone is an inspiring idea we all want, but it’s a massive undertaking. Maybe the first step is smaller: a modular device or a phone OS stack built for freedom… one piece at a time.

The portable computer part is crucial for privacy since carrier-based calls/texts are horrible and should be avoided along with wanting to support things like running a Bitcoin wallet, browser, etc. Existing mobile software is near entirely written for iOS and Android, and other platforms aren't serious.
