ALL custodial Bitcoin/Lightning wallets should be ecash wallets.

first custodian to implement this would absolutely gain market share. they'd immediately become the preferred "easy mode onboarding" wallet.

The fact that they aren’t already is insane to me

I am not making concrete accusations because I generally do not know what I am talking about... BUT I suspect, or wouldn't be surprised if, losing the payment data they currently have access to would hurt their current business models.

I think ecash/cashu is my favorite bitcoin thing to use/play with that I fear won’t gain widespread adoption :/

Good morning!

Seems like a better idea than the current setup

I was thinking along the same line.

I a future where only a few will be able to afford their own lightning channels, leaving most users on fully custodial solutions like LNbits server / LNurl server does not seem to be a good idea.

A federated e-cash wallet like cashu or fedi does seem like a better solution.

Even without a federation, giving your users a default amount of privacy is crucial, especially if we are to fight the sort of petty tyrant attacks like we are getting from FinCEN and their ilk.

That is a valid point, more so each and every day.

Good morning☕😊

Does anyone have an ELI5 on ecash? 🙏

Yeah watch the vid @RawBTC shared, it’s a good one. The super nutshell version is it’s a way to host a custodial service and verify transactions for your users, except you have no idea how much ecash is moving around or where it is going. It’s all blinded. All they can tell is if it’s “real” ecash, and they can sign it.

Even shorter, it’s a tool to create a totally private service where even the operator doesn’t know what’s going on.
