I now have a 2017 MacBook Pro, 16 GB, 512 GB SSD thatโ€™s a spare, but the battery is toast, so it must be plugged in; basically a server.

What should I do with it?

Run a bitcoin node, lightning node, or nostr relay? Maybe all 3?

Sell it for sats

Flash start 9 OS onto it ๐Ÿ‘

Onto a Mac with Intel silicon? ๐Ÿค”

Boot camp? If not you could probably just run bitcoin core gui

Good point. But Iโ€™d feel dirty running Windows. ;)

Is bootcamp windows only?

I think so.

snoop around here https://community.start9.com/t/known-good-hardware-master-list-hardware-capable-of-running-startos/66 or better yet check in with the start9 telegram chat, very helpful and responsive community. if you got start9 on there you could run btc core, lightning node, lnbits, nostr relay, simplex server among many other self-hosted applications ๐Ÿค™

Looks dicey, but Iโ€™ll look a bit further. Thanks.

Craigslist and buy phone ๐Ÿ˜‚

Iโ€™ll give you $50 in sats. My some wants a MacBook to mix his music, but he needs to save for a car. But music is his passion.

lol

bitcoin+lightning

any battery bulge yet? was that the last year before the infamous bar?

No bulge and it has the bar. Never liked it.

word. still, decent hardware. I'm running pop_os on an ancient macbook air, just for fun. I mostly use it for obsidian

Maybe buy an external NVMe and run bitcoin + lightning + private nostr relay

Why would I need the NVMe?

For the full node blockchain. 1TB

Replace the battery and give it to someone that needs it

Zap me the $250 for the battery replacement, and weโ€™re on. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Give it to me, after AK gives you to replace the battery ๐Ÿ˜† win win
