Day 11: #grownostr initiative

I had to go out of town this weekend. I am very fortunate to live next door to my parents and that they are able to help me with the garden and animals. How does every deal with circumstances like these?

We usually have to find a home sitter or someone to come a couple times a day for feedings.

We have a neighbor if it’s just a few days otherwise my parents who don’t have animals will stay here while we’re gone and take care of the animals and garden

We just have chickens and we have some good friends just 2 minutes away that check on them while we are gone. Chickens can go a few days without us, so it is easy. I really want to get a dairy cow, but the need to milk 2 times a day is one of the reasons stopping me from doing it.

We're fortunate enough to have people around that we take care of each other's when someone has to go out of town.

We focused more on hunting and fishing over animal husbandry in the past for this very reason. We are raising layers this year b/c my husband has a young co-worker who lives with his parents - he’ll take on anything to get out of the house for a few nights. We have a fireplace and jacuzzi tub so that helps seal the deal. My in-laws will help in a pinch but it’s a 45min round trip so we don’t ask often.

Hot tub....brilliant!

It’s a dream come true because we are on a spring fed well that never runs dry. It’s a huge 2person tub so I don’t rack up the water bills or have to maintain a hot tub.
