Strike is only for sending the fiat p2p which can be done on “private” mode (receiver gets no info about me).

The “purchase” is coordinated by robosats.

So yes I had to KYC to use strike but from the bitcoin perspective they only know that I am sending fiat to someone else, not that I am buying bitcoin.

the recipient of your strike fiat is the seller of the bitcoin so they know your identity (or at least your Strike username) no?

I'd missed your reply earlier supermass, sorry about that.

Didn't know there was a private mode! I recently was annoyed when using to fund a wallet recently that there was a note in the ln txn I couldn't edit, which gave away some info. Guessing among other things, private mode fixes this. Gonna look into it, thanks.

I can't find "private mode" in Strike ...

Just checked and I have it activated already. Must be the setting which hides username when sending, since that's to my knowledge only thing I modified in it, and that was a long time ago.

I still have a small bone to pick in that if I find say a Foutain podcast wallet with it, the receipt includes a note like "fountain user12345" and I can't remove it. Not great, as I assume Strike could then theoretically connect identity to nostr handle, if they wanted to, or worse accidentally leak that info in the future (everyone leaking data these days afterall), and possibly dox my nostr history :(

where are you finding this?!

When I click profile at top right I see this:

Click profile icon at top right to get this screen. Then there's another "profile" button just below where I cut off screenshot. Inside that there seems to be a toggle

Not clear how private it is though... My goal at time was to not reveal alias to others I sent small amounts to.

very odd. I can get there but I don't have this option. maybe a state by state thing or something.. because I also don't have the loan options yet.

Weird, no clue. Can tag Jack for likely reply, but may not be worth it as he seems fairly busy these days haha

I believe it is location specific. From experience with having this on, the recipient doesn’t get any info about you other than the payment amount.

Good info, thanks!

Even if they received my username this is editable at will, I could change it after every payment.

good point

but okay full paranoia mode: a state actor on the other end of a Robosats transaction, records timestamp + fiat amount + username at the time, later on in a war on bitcoin holders subpoenas Strike for KYC on this user = knock on your door, "where is that bitcoin you bought".

nuclear, sure... but there are ways around even this - like paying with Liquid USDT from a noncustodial wallet.

Don’t let fear get in the way of doing the right thing ie buying and using Bitcoin p2p the reason it was invented

I totally agree

properly paranoid😆

yes I draw my line at the limit of requiring a dedicated, targeted attacker to put me at risk. at that point they are likely more technically sophisticated than I am anyway so adding further complexity is actually increasing my risk of making mistakes or misunderstanding my own situation

excellent point
