Nostr Web Client

Thinking about a normal email/password login for new Nostr users for CosaNostr. Just a simple Firebase auth system that fetches the keys on login. Easy to set up and easy to use.

When users are ready to jump in and know what they're doing, they could easily delete the Firebase records and go full Nostr.

This would go against the Nostr principle probably, but I do think my mom would actually go check it out if the access looks familiar to what she uses now.

Just a brainfart, what do you guys think?

You're trying to build Coinbase for nostr, which destroys everything that makes nostr great in the first place.

How do you do account recovery without holding everyone's keys? The whole point of username/password is recoverability. No recoverability, no benefit.

You say people can migrate. How? How can I make sure that you deleted my key? You can't. There is no "proof of deletion".

You have a point on the deletion part, that's when they go full Nostr. New keys, new 'identity'. Purplepilled. But the very first step is just them signing in how they know it works and have a look around. Get 'those' people in, you know what people I am talking about, the ones that don't even care about bitcoin or decentralization or what even the problem is now. After a while, they just might change their mind.

We do not disagree at all, I'm just putting in my two cents on how to onboard a great deal of people that have zero interest in safety, security, transparency and/or sovereignty.

Someone just showed me a great onboarding system, I'm looking into that as well. Just afraid that Nostr will be stuck on bitcoinheads and wacky porn for a long time without more mainstream people.

porn is almost always first because of how it's been treated by every platform. search engines hide it behind unsafe results and social media hides, bans, or demonitizes it. and usually porn leads innovation because of this. let the porn be nostr's trojan horse. come for the booties, stay for the friends, freedom and bitcoin education.

if you say that there is no email and then you do the opposite, it doesn't make much sense. Nostr is a way to teach backup key, signature key, cloud store key, cold key

To me it's the same as not your keys, not your bitcoin. Not your keys, not your Nostr. It's about that first step into Nostr that people find 'hard' or cumbersome. Why not make it easy until they know what they're doing instead of spamming their nsec in global?
