I'm curious how you use nostr because you interact with way more people than you follow. How do you do it?

DVM's?

Hashtags?

Something else?

I'm the admin of multiple relays and I look at the relay global feed on #Jumble. You can go there https://jumble.social/ and select wss://theforest.nostr1.com 🌲 from the drop-down list. That's what I look at.

I also have a local relay that pulls in notes over a whitelist, and I look at that. I relay-whitelist people, instead of event-following them.

My follows list is just free marketing for my friends' npubs, and a way to confirm my alts.

Wow.

Thank you.

Glad this method works for you.

But if that's the case why do you care about how many people are following you? Surely your notes are being seen by others like yourself using similar methods anyway?

1) It's a reliable proxy-statistic for Nostr's growth. When Nostr's userbase expands rapidly, everyone's follow count noticeably goes up, even mine. That hasn't happened in months.

2) Newer arrivals aren't Advanced Nostr-ing, like that. Hardly anyone is. They only use follows, to build their feed. They get onboarded with a preset recommendation list and it mostly just stays like that, so those lists determine everyone's feed.

3) My not being on the recommended list, but regularly trending, leads to the weird situation that lots of npubs think they're following me, that actually aren't. I just seem to drop out of their feed, for days or weeks at a time, so they can't see what I write.

And so on. Follows is a whole politikum.
