For now 😂, but it’s more than a social media protocol 🫡

What other legitimate use cases are there?

If it only ever shakes out to be the new social media why would that be a bad thing? Why would we want to hammer-fit the world to fit through a Nostr shaped hole?

It wouldn't be bad, but we wouldn't have to hammer-fit anything. It will happen naturally because the Nostr-shaped hole is a giant teleportation crater. The protocol is extremely simple. As Antonopoulos once pointed out: “Dumb networks are better… Simplicity at the center allows for complexity at the edge.”

Nostr could be a marketplace for apps, games, music, physical items, etc. It's great for broadcasting news and blogging. Many of those things are tied to email, so Nostr could replace email and instant messaging since it's tied to real hard money⚡️. Some of it is already happening. Jester, Habla, and Zap.stream are good examples.

Perhaps we were just thinking semantics here. When I say social media I'm not just thinking a microblogging Twitter clone.

I would lump all those things under a "social media" umbrella.

For example; Facebook, Twitter, blogger, & Reddit already handle most of that stuff.

Even email is a way people "socialize".

Yes, but becoming a marketplace for everything digital and physical is much more than social media. Nostr could become the standard protocol for trade and communication, just as Bitcoin is the standard protocol for money.
