Nearly stepped on two Eastern Brown Snakes yesterday, either the same one twice in 20 minutes or there are a few of them.

Having the second most venomous snake in the world just hanging about in your vegetable patch is both fascinating and worrying. I've always realised they were in the yard, I've found shed skins, but I rarely see them so close.

If it makes you feel any better, then about 1/4 of bites are dry bites meaning no venom emitted. I was bitten by a venomous snake; i surprised it at night so it was a defensive dry bite not a predatory bite. Venom is expensive to make. My hand swelled up and my joints hurt a little but that was it (afaik 😂 maybe this is why i am the way i am 🫠). Anyways, hopefully you have a plan in case of a bite but just wanted to share my experience with you too 🤙

Yeah I'd really hope for a dry bite and, yes, it did make me think about my bite plan, which is currently call 000 and huddle in the foetal position 😂. I'll need to get a bandage to carry.

The one time I got to visit Australia for work, I extended the trip for a little sight seeing. I did numerous hikes in nowhere land during the week in areas that might not have another person set foot on that trail for several days. Looking back, I wondered if that was a good idea. Not only could I have slipped and fell and hurt myself, but I also might have been bitten by one of your very poisonous snakes. This was also before I carried a cell phone, so I had no way to call for help.

The good news is I survived, saw lots of great sights, and had a great time. The bad news is that my house burnt down in 2015 and all of my pictures burnt up in the fire, so all I have is my memories.

That sucks about your house, but you have the memories. The snakes aren't that much of a danger, they usually move before you get near them. The crocs will outright stalk and murder you though 😂

Careful out there!

Do you wear gum boots in the garden?

Sometimes, but mostly in winter. In summer it's thongs or shoes, to be honest it's lucky I haven't lost a toe from all the yard work I do in thongs. I get thong tan lines on my feet 😂

haha, i trod on one of those once at my cleaning job at Ormiston College. right on his head. poor bugger was stunned anyway. Also my boots were 11" tall tactical boots.

i still backed away slowly.
