We may as well with the electronic banking system. The only real difference is that there is no blockchain. It's all bank ledgers (which can only update during banking hours, because reasons).

This is great, but will this be achieved? Several Senators and Representatives are proposing legislation against it, at least to not be done via EO, but how effective will this be? The BIS already states central banks have to be CBDC-ready/compliant by 2025. Iβm wondering if this is all wishful thinking at this point.
BIS is not a legislative body.

Not in the sense of setting laws for countries/nations, no itβs not. However it does indeed set protocol for its member banks, I.e. β the central banks that belong to it.
