I know nothing about this or Ted Cruz, but I do know that over the past 20 years and all while I was growing up, the govt subsidized the ever loving shit out of “internet access for everyone” and it resulted in a staggering market consolidation from thousands of small ISPs to a handful of corporate giants, and instead of actually spreading internet access, it resulted in older infrastructure being built out to a far greater degree than ever made sense, big corporations just expanding by buying up their competition with govt loans, and a stagnant and dated infrastructure that is harder, rather than easier to update.

So knowing nothing specific about a bill that “expands internet access,” I have zero naive assumption that the bill will do anything of the sort and I’d prefer the govt stay the fuck out of our internet infrastructure because their actions are practically universally destructive of the platitude level excuse they cart it out for.

To be frank, govt subsidies can burn in hell just like they deserve.
