NUC
Link to an example please?
Thanks.
Keep in mind it is not a complete system. You still have to provide the RAM and an NVME SSD, which for the purposes of a node, should be 2+ TB.
Mine is running on an Intel NUC. It has been running great even though I’m using an older model. Not as small as a Pi but still small and portable.

Would you consider a refurbished one ??
Defo look for certified refurbs on eBay.
This is a newer model than the one I’m currently using but I have one of these that I’m planning to build as a new/2nd node. Bitcoin synced in about 9 hours on this.
Need to add RAM and an SSD to it. I’ve got 16GB RAM and a 2TB M.2 SSD in this one.
When you say build. Do just mean add ram and ssd??
Yeah it is just RAM and SSD that it needs. You can but them pre-built with RAM and SSDs already included and if you do look for something 2nd hand or refurb then it may already have them.
Sort of not keen on refurb one just in case. Given what’s at stake
I’d probably at least put a new SSD in with a refurb. It’s easy enough to move that to another box if the box dies but much harder to recover if the SSD dies. Still need backups either way though as even new devices can die.
I got a refurb like this on Amazon. Zero issues https://www.ebay.com/itm/234867686892?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=SFph12USTqO&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Look into Start9
Alternatively, consider a small ThinkCentre desktop. Still as portable as a laptop.
No a budget option, but something like that is great and reliable 🐶🐾🫡

I suggest finding an I7 quad core mobile workstation you can put at least 32 gigs of ram in as well as swap out the hybrid HDs with sSDs.. dell made some called precision m2800s, a little heavy but it’s mobile
You may be only able to add 16gigs depending on the year but that should still knock it out of the park
can get a used laptop, like a thinkpad from maybe ebay? or thin client desktop dell optiplex.
Futurebit.io if you have the budget
It’s just an orange pi board I’m pretty sure in a custom case
Lenovo think centre tiny are good small and upgradable
I bought a second hand Intel NUC, put a new SSD in it and running Ubuntu. Happy with it.
Lots of replies with this kind of setup. Seems the way I will be going
So you can wipe whatever operating system is on it then instal unbutu then add umbrel ?? Or can I just use umbrel as the operating system. ????
Yes I think they have win10 on it by default. I remember I had to thinker a bit with the bios to get it to boot from the ubuntu sdcard but its possible. Running umbrel on ubuntu indeed.
Thanks mate.
Ow to work out how to get my lightning node transferred to new hardware. That shit is making me nervous. I have 43 channels
Tell me about it. Safest is to close the channels and reopen but its not cheap. Copy lnd/cln app data across, shut down the pi and see if channels go online on nuc. If not go back and revert to pi.
