To be a normie is to be deceived, to be complacent, and to live a life controlled by others.
It is not actually normal to live this way, but it is extremely common.
I think it is normal to relentlessly seek the truth, to be self reliant, and to master one's own life.

In relation to when and where? What time period? I agree whatever is 'normal' has been heavily influenced by novel tech, such as television.
But people have always lived their lives "deceived, complacent and controlled by others" as far as i can tell for the most part.
(Note that "deceived, complacent and controlled by others would not be my frame, but i dont mind using yours for the sake of discussion)
