Will you use open source freedom tech by its own merits or will you deprive yourself of it based on some larp moralist purity test about who made what and what do they think about the latest political issue?

Are people saying tor is bad or compromised?
TOR has always been compromised to some degree, not because of it's origins, but because anyone can run a node, and there are adversarial exit nodes in the network.
Do you still use it? Any good alternatives?
Tor has been compromised on occasion but my OP was not about TOR, it's about the irrelevance of free software provenance.
Lots of technologies have been born from military research in the USA. The frequency hopping technique that military radios use is was made cell phone networks possible. Many advances have been made in trauma medicine. There are many more examples but the point is that the origin of the technology doesn't matter, just how people use it.
War advances most fields as to support troops on the front it takes both infrastructure and resources. As both are crucial, you want the most efficient systems... the aim in warfare is to win at any cost... as History is decided by the winners. Legacy matters.

If we based what tools we used on their creators we would use nothing. Personalities and entities involved are irrelevant if it is open source and verifiable. Good can unintentionally come from evil and vice versa.
Bitcoin would not be so successful had Satoshi not done his disappearing act, leaving it impossible for Bitcoin to become a cult of personality. Same is true of Ricardo Spagni stepping down as lead Monero dev.

The last one to issue an independent currency was charged with terrorism, among other things, and got over 25 years. Satoshi had been inspired by him, as I noticed.
