but what does a jpeg on a satoshi add to the network other than memory space?
still dont get it, i get the tech, i dont get the utility
nfts on shitcoin networks have shown they are rather useless, no?
would you buy nfts in 2023?

Freedom does not only mean the freedom you desire.
I don't get why most bitcoiners hate when bitcoin evolves.
I have about 400 NFTs split on different "shitcoin networks" and I use these Blockchains or second layers more often than Lightning or Bitcoin. Even though I am zapping a lot here.
Maybe they don't have the utility you find useful but they have it.
Actually, it's funny for me to see "Bitcoiners" go bananas when they use "Lightning" as its core technology even though it's useless for most of people becuase they need BTC first to even receive it. Thanks to that feature, most of people use Lightning wallet in a cutodial manner!
Literally, it's the same move as Roger Ver, and now we got Ordinals, we got to face the same blocksize problem and all that, it's damn hilarious they all used to "hate" all of those type of things.
I think Ordinals make sense more than Bitcoin Lightning they wanna solve the problem more natively.
Btw. Kohei.. The Bitcoin/Lightning dilemma is obvious. To me it seems that bitcoin maxis want everyone to run their own node because they know that most of the people won't be able to run it safe and secure. This leading to the loss of their bitcoin. People are not able to memorize their Passwords or run their devices securely. How the fuck should they be able to accomplish this with lightning? It won't work.
Unpopular opinion: Banks will provide Lightning Node Services for normies and we will not see a future where the masses hold their bitcoin in self custody.
Btw. Using a custodian lightning app for social media zapping is the best decision.
I am a nerd. I am hosting websites and running Linux servers for years now. But I struggle do dive in the how and why to run a lightning node. I just hold my bitcoin in "brainwallet" and use WoS for all things lightning.
Bitcoiners say 1000s of transactions are possible on bitcoin. But they mean "it is possible WITH bitcoin on lightning network. Which alone the name suggests not to be bitcoin itself.
I mentioned this a couple of times over at twitter and maxis told me that I do know shit about Bitcoin and should go on scamming people with shitcoins" (let's get back to the hate). When maxis reach the point where they have no answer anymore they will tell you that for them lightning is bitcoin no matter what others think. It's totally crazy.
Actually, same here. I use my own brain wallet for storing on-chain #BTC and running my own start9 node for LN, spreading my mnemonic seeds hidden nationwide like a literally prepper, yet thinking like "What am I doing? lol".
It's been more than 10 years since I met Bitcoin. I love Cryptography itself, so I can get it tho, I doubt it's for everybody. Maybe, I only love Cryptography, Bitcoin, and PoW, and no love for community. I just wanna be a peer or node to run the ecosystem.
I'm so glad I found people thinking the same question here. Thanks, @joekrypto.eth .
that is true, LN is not on BTC main chain
similar polygon and several other L2s
let me put a few things straight
"there is no second best" is true, there is no other savings tech in crypto
you can grow your savings stack using other crypto
you are free to play the crypto game, you need to be a bit lucky to win but there are gains to be gained playing the btc/crypto game
would I rather have $10k in btc or any other crypto for 10 years and not be anlr to trade it? btc for sure
i think im not your usual maxi, i understand gambling is fun but i dont mix saving tech (btc) with gambling tech (crypto)
you can do whatever, but i think its hard to argue against that
Exactly. That's the way I see it. Bitcoin is my retirement plan and I will be the first in my family to leave something for his child.
Bitcoin is superior basically to every other monetary good and technically beautiful. Furthermore it's the only decentral asset we have
Crypto is for fun and for short term "gains" and to explore the possibilities of Blockchain tech.
Just a side note : My claim was: If Lightning is Bitcoin then Ethereum is Bitcoin too. Because you can transfer Bitcoin on Ethereum too.
Of course this was the point where the discussion got personal because they ran out of answers. I deleted my account but you should see the dms I got from maxis after claiming that based on THEIR view ethereum is bitcoin too.
im not hating, is questioning the same as hating now?
lightning solves the payments tps it has utility, so i am not sure what do you mean when you say lightning is useless for most people. anyone that "accepts bitcoin payments" is using lightning
what is the use case for nfts right now?
and dont take this as hating, im not hating
i just dont start clapping to a new feature just because it exists
its not a with or against us type of topic, it needs to have utility before it gets applauds, do you agree with that at least?
I guess this "hate" by bitcoiners was massive on the other shitty twitter/x so maybe this transfers to discussions here.
I just can't understand why bitcoiners want free people but then don't want to accept free people doing the things they want to do. At least from a market perspective one could say that the market has decided to have multiple cryptocurrencies.
Bitcoin is here to finally have a "battle of the money's". Maybe bitcoin first has to win the fight between other cryptocurrencies and then people will start to choose the best money a human has ever created.
agree, but does eth offer "freedom" in its purest form?
POS will never be as freedom representing as POW
the exchanges can have as much btc as they want, they wont be able to censor btc transactions
can that be said about POS and ETH?
Still this is totally not the point.
You cannot measure anyone's freedom by wether he or she uses a technology that is free.
Is POW free of earthbound resources? No it is not. So one could argue that you can only live freedom, when you are free of anything that does not come from within yourself.
Of course it can be censored, but free people have chosen to use it. Freely. By themselves.
But again: You can't measure freedom of an individual by count "freedom" tools.
I assume you are using an phone with Google's android or apple's iOS?
G
Even bitcoin doesn't offer "freedom in its purest form" because I at least need energy and a mobile connection. I don't even know what you mean by "freedom in its purest form".
And arguing about freedom: freedom is always the freedom of your "enemies" too!
#freedom #bitcoin #altcoins
wait, are you talking esg? earthbould resources are needed for everything.
i didnt say the tech was free (or should be, it shouldn't), having eth to stake or having hardware to mine POW is a requirement, both have pre requisites => this is good
regarding people choosing to use, dude, thats great, nothing against that
i dont know where you read from me that you shouldn't be able to buy worthless things, you should be able to buy worthless things
should you buy it? maybe not, but being able to buy? of course!
Sorry that I'm being sarcastic.
What I'm saying here is why Bitcoiners can mostly stick to subjects, "dencentralized and non-custodial", and say "Lightning is good, and Ordinals is bad" at the very same time.
If you're into something non-custodial, you would have to have your own full-node for even receiving BTC, so it's not for everybody because theres some poor people out there right? People get forced to use custodial wallet like Wallet of Satoshi. Yet they keep saying out like non-custodial is good, Lightning is nice, and Bitcoin for everybody. I hate this double and triple standard.
I forsee those kind of people would do the same thing to Ordinals.
I don't like "they say it's good now but they said it's bad back then" type of thing cuz I can't feel any philosophy out of it.
FYI:
In my opinion, I do think Ordinals is interesting, which is why I posted a suggestion for implementation to Nostr, so don't get me wrong like I'm hating. I'm questioning as well.
🫂
a couple notes i would add
100$ in a costodial LN wallet isnt a big deal, for anyone on a western country
the only BTC i have that i dont custody is on my LN wallet
ordinals havent proven value yet (and they are quite recent)
NFTs arent new, they have no proven value yet...other than speculation on monkey images and other pfp stuff
i will wait for the utility that ordinals can add because for now, NFTs, not specifically ordinals, none of them have proven utility
Seeing that block emission is halving every 4 years bitcoins main layer needs something like ordinals/NFTs.
Or do you think miners can runt heir equipment in profit when they only get transaction fees? They can't.
What I see is that Bitcoiner talk about a better world with bitcoin but want people to potentially get their bitcoin stolen or lost. Or would have to hustle with hannel closings, balancing and so on. That's bogus and will never ever happen.
Furthermore most of them praise bitcoin, but they most of the time only use bitcoin as an offramp to the lightning network - again reducing the rewards for miners, because once your bitcoin are in lightning your transaction won't generate fees for the miners. It's very double standard in this case.
As I said I discussed this over and over on the dead mountain bluebird app and most maxis only see my username and then assume I am a scammer.
But maxis wanting their grandparents to run a lightning node. That are the real scammer in my eyes!
Are you saying Bitcoin is only for westerners? lol
Yes. NFT seemlingly has no real value so far.
That's why I suggested we should try again on Nostr and Bitcoin_(┐「ε:)_
no, im saying 100$ is losable money for westernairs, and that will likely not break the bank
cant really say that on africa, south america and alot of asia
are any of these places poor? no, they are very rich places, just badly balanced and run/managed
