Nice. Watch out for the Gooseberry sawflies if you have them there. When they're bad they defoliate the plant and the berries all drop off before they can ripen. No fun.

I'll have to check if they're endemic here. I have a decent number of "Ribes" genus plants that it would suck to lose.

Is this a cultivated variety? I have wild gooseberries. I love having an occasional treat from them

It is, though I forget which variety. Maybe "pixwell?" The wild ones I've seen have thorns on the berries themselves. I don't know that I want to try them that bad 😅

They are soft thorns 😅.

I'll have to research breeds because I want some significant production. Just never thought of looking up cultivated varieties.
